Lessons may be canceled up to 24 hours before the scheduled lesson start time without incurring a cancellation fee.
Lessons canceled less than 24 hours before the scheduled start time will be subject to a cancellation fee of $15 per 30 minutes of scheduled lesson time.
30-minute lesson: $15 cancellation fee
60-minute lesson: $30 cancellation fee
Cancellation fees help ensure that our instructors are compensated for the time they have reserved for your lesson. Sufficient cancellation notice is at least 24 hours before your scheduled lesson start time. When a lesson is canceled with less than 24 hours' notice or a rider does not attend their scheduled lesson, the instructor is unable to fill that time slot and would otherwise not be paid. We appreciate your understanding and cooperation in helping us support our instructors and maintain a consistent lesson schedule.
At our barn, we believe that becoming a good rider involves much more than simply time in the saddle. Horsemanship is a critical part of every rider's education. We have found that all riders benefit from additional horsemanship instruction. Because of this, lessons will generally continue as scheduled regardless of weather conditions.
During periods of light to moderate rain, riding lessons will typically continue as planned. We have ponchos available for riders, and our limestone-based arena drains exceptionally well, allowing us to ride comfortably in most rainy conditions.
If a heavy downpour, thunderstorm, or other weather condition prevents riding, riders will participate in an indoor Horsemanship Lesson during their scheduled lesson time. If weather conditions improve during the lesson, we will make every effort to resume riding for the remainder of the lesson.
To put it simply:
Horsemanship instruction is considered a regular lesson and provides valuable education that helps riders become well-rounded horsemen and horsewomen. These lessons are an important part of our program and are not considered make-up lessons.
Horsemanship Lessons include the following topics:
Horse behavior and psychology
Horse body language and communication
Grooming and daily horse care
Tack identification, fitting, and maintenance
Equine health and wellness

Stable management and barn safety
Ground handling and leading skills
Parts of the horse and basic anatomy
